I love VNV Nation - this is a remix from one of their newer albums. People don’t normally think of industrial music as carrying a message of hope, but I think their music does - it is heavily laden with gothic orchestral qualities, which gives it a very uplifting, but at the same time sober and melancholic feel. (The last two and a half minutes of this song is one of my favorite samples of their work). They also do hauntingly beautiful instrumentals like this one.
For me this music really speaks to the experience of transition (VNV stands for “Victory, not Vengeance”). Their lyrics at once empower and call to action but also inspire compassion for the human condition and decry violence: The real war to be fought is within the self.
